This paper is on the constitutional x-ray of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in
primary assignments in Nigeria. The National Youth Service Corps was created in a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild Nigeria in unity. The primary purpose of the scheme is to inculcate in Nigeria youth the spirit of selfless service, patriotism and brotherhood of all Nigerians irrespective of cultural or social background. Apart from this, there is assignment known specifically as community development service (CDS) through which corps members are expected to contribute to the communities where they serve. The objectives of primary assignments and community development services (secondary assignment) are debatable in terms of how these assignments have generated development in host community in contemporary time demands an x-ray. It is recommended that the Act of the National Youth Service Corp be amended to ensure that corps members are able to carry out their community development activities effectively to achieve all round sustainable development.
